2011 Reflection

As I reflect back on 2011 I am filled with gratitude for all the wonderful people who called upon me to create their portraits. I was astonished by the wisdom in the children and had to laugh at the childlike antics of some of the adults. I feel truly blessed to have created family portraits for rare family reunions, and to escort families to my favorite places where they connected with each other in kind loving ways. Their connection took my breath away and their love for each other touched my heart. Below is a little slide show of my favorite subjects in 2011.

I look forward to another year of creating family portraits in our beautiful natural environment. The weather in Half Moon Bay is warm right now and the light is spectacular. I have lots of appointments available so call upon me soon.

Ignite your Muse

I’ve been creating in Half Moon Bay’s diverse landscape for over twenty years. Then one day…my friend Teresa showed me this lovely hidden farm just outside of town. In that moment, I knew this was the place to gather women and share all I know about creative photography. This was the place to relax, refresh and renew the body, mind and creative spirit.

You’re invited to join me in August for a women’s photography retreat on an enchanting farm in Half Moon Bay. We will spend four days immersed in the art and soul of photography. I hope you can take a few days away from your busy life to nurture your inner muse in this sacred circle of women photographers. We will focus our minds (and cameras) on the beauty of the natural world. We will harvest jewels of our imagination by creating images that speak from our souls. On this tranquil, sylvan farm with its ocean vistas, it will be easy to connect with mother earth and be inspired by her beauty. We will shoot at the beach during sunset light and every woman will be both creator and subject. Chef Terry Walters will prepare delicious meals to nourish our bodies. To relax our bodies, gentle yoga classes and massage will be offered daily. I am very excited to hold this artist’s retreat on the most magical farm in Half Moon Bay.

Fresh View

The blessings of spring are everywhere. I feel it in my step and rejoice in the birth of the Cali lilies, tulips, wisteria and cherry blossoms. All the new spring flowers make my heart sing and refreshes my view. Last week we were happily surprised to find a bird’s nest in the window box at the studio.

We’re hoping to see eggs in it soon. It will be awesome to watch the hatching of wild baby birds. I’ll keep you posted on the birth that will spring from the window box nest.

Pure Potentiality

I started the new year setting my intentions, desires and feeling hopeful. I kept my list short and simple, so that I would be able to keep my commitments.

Last week I spent 5 days at the Deepak Chopra Center with my dear friend who is studying Primordial Sound Meditation. That 5 day retreat was pretty mind expanding. One of the assignments was to write 100 or more intentions and desires. The list flowed from of me quickly and with little effort.

During my time there, I attended Yoga classes 2 or 3 times a day, learned a different way of meditation, lunched with my mentor Jan Phillips, and had a lot of relaxing solitary time to reflect on my list. During the yoga classes we would bring pure potentiality into our consciousness and work it through our bodies.

Now it’s almost spring and I feel like it’s the beginning of a new year. I won’t bore you with the list of 103 intentions I set, but here’s some of the top ones.

The next full moon ceremony I hold will be on May 17th, 2011 in Tulum Mexico. We need 3 more women to sign up for this retreat. You can get a discount if you sign up before Saint Patrick’s day.

Today I share with you two portraits of the Jones sisters. Ten years ago Greg Jones wanted to surprise his wife Lani with a portrait of their sweet little girls. Greg and I met and hatched the plan. He dressed his daughters warmly in matching sweaters, brushed their hair and told them that we were going to make a surprise for Mommy. We met at the beach, played and made some very pretty portraits of his little angels. Later he told his wife that he was thinking of having me shoot a portrait of the girls, and that I wanted to meet with them to design the portrait. Little did she know that I had already shot the portraits. When they arrived at the studio I pretended not to know Greg, and proceeded to find out what Lani wanted to see and feel in the portrait of her daughters. Good thing it was exactly what I had already captured.

In most of my design consultations I show my clients a slideshow of my work as a visual aid to help them articulate what they want in their portrait. On that day I started the slideshow, but it was the portraits of her daughters. She had no idea and was happily surprised to tears. It was one of those rich moments that we will always remember.

Now ten years later the oldest daughter Mckenna is a high school senior and Lani felt it was time to create another portrait of her daughters. We returned to the same beach on a minus tide at sunset to created the new portrait. During the shoot I had a moment of De’ja’ vu. Ten years went by in a blink.

The Jones sisters have grown into beautiful young ladies. Their loving connection to each other is the same as it was when they were little girls. Below are a few portraits of Mckenna alone. We made these in honor or her last year of high school.

After a long holiday rest, it feels good to be back to work at the studio. I have a lot of shooting days available in 2011. Call upon me soon.

New Years Eve 2010

On this New Years Eve, I reflect back on 2010. It was a good year filled with gratitude, quietness, ceremony, yoga, social networking, and new perspectives. To help me remember the good moments of 2010, I refer back to my gratitude journal. I made entries everyday to help me remember the simple things in my life and keep me in the flow. I spent so many hours of 2010 alone, submerged in Photoshop, happily creating portrait art. With no distractions, I created some of my best works. To balance my sedentary, solitary work, I would go to the Joy of Being in Moss Beach and practice yoga with Jessica Archer, who I nicknamed “the Young Wise One” for good reason. http://www.coastsidephotography.com/slideshows/ywo/index.html Over the summer, my youngest son, Wesley, assisted me on my shoots. We had some moments that I will always remember. Every full moon of 2010 I lead a circle of wise women in a full moon ceremony. Our circle is open to all like-minded women. If you’re interested in joining us, send me an email. tamtrejo@pacbell.net. On 10-10-2010 @ 10am I officiated a wedding: my best friend got married to her childhood friend on Catalina Island. It was one of the richest days of my year , with so many serendipitous moments. To help promote my business, I stepped into the world of social networking with this blog and a Studio Face Book page, both of which brought me clients from far away places who wouldn’t have found me otherwise. On Easter we died and painted sand dollars instead of eggs and this year we got the Christmas tree up before December. Both are firsts for me. As you reflect back on 2010, I hope that you can only remember the good moments, and relish the simple abundance of your life.

2011 New Years Resolutions. Well I am one of those people who love to make resolutions and am pretty good at keeping them, because I make them easy. In the new year of 2011, I will be grateful for the simple things in life, nourish my body with good food and yoga, keep company with awesome women who honor each other, care for my home and family, plant flowers, laugh a lot, cry freely, dance often and create portrait art. I am looking forward to starting a wonderful new year. May you stay in the flow and be grateful for life’s simple moments.

Winter

Mother Earth

Warm fire light, holy candle light and twinkling Christmas lights, soothe my soul and bring me to a place of calm and gratitude. Specular day light, astonishing sun sets and a billion stars set in an indigo velvet night sky, are a few of reasons I love this time of the year.

The other day, I harvested the last of the autumn sunflowers, turned the soil and set it to rest until the end of the year. The small strips of soil that lead to my front door has worked so hard this year. First it was a bed for hundreds of beautiful tulips. Then, without a break, the small patch of Mother Earth nurtured and fed tiny sunflower seeds and dahlia bulbs into magnificent flowers that made everyone smile. Now, in this first week of December, the soil rests to reenergize; holding the nutrients and building more to become a strong nutrient rich home for next years beautiful crop of magnificent flowers.

Keeping in the natural rhythm of Mother Earth, I am completing my work for the year and closing the studio on the 17th of December. After that date, I will take a nice long rest to reenergize, refresh and be ready to create beautiful works of art again in 2011.

May you have a joyous, peaceful holiday season filled with good light.

Miracles and Music

With bold grace Rebecca bathed in her own divine light while connected to Mother Earth, she honored her unborn babies and her womanhood by posing for this portrait. A week later she preformed the miracle of giving birth to twins.

Three weeks after we made her maternity portrait she returned to the studio with two precious healthy babies.

We are very lucky to have the talented Marty Williams living here in Half Moon Bay. He just finished his new CD and is planning a CD release concert at the Pasta Moon’s Music Box, November 6th @ 7pm. It’s open to the public, so please stop by if you’re in town. Marty is an extremely talented musician with a rich voice. It was a JOY working with him to create the images for his CD. He’s a big man with a kind heart and above all he loves his family.
